Louisville City FC and Wilson Harris have agreed to a new multi-year contract keeping the standout striker in purple, the club announced Wednesday.

The news follows a second straight season in which Harris led LouCity in goals having hit the back of the net nine times in 2023.

“We are happy to keep Wilson here in Louisville,” said coach Danny Cruz. “He is a hungry, proven goal scorer that will play an important role for our group next year. We will continue to announce additions to our attack, but to secure Wilson was an important piece. I’m looking forward to continuing our work together and helping push him to be the best forward he can be.”

Harris, who already sits fifth on LouCity’s all-time scoring list with 24 goals in two seasons, also registered five assists. He twice put together four-game scoring streaks as well, doing so both in 2022 and 2023.

Still only 24 years old, the Los Angeles native continues to show upside after a bright start to his career.

“Re-signing with Louisville City, I really wanted to be around the guys again and be in a like-minded locker room.” Harris said. “For me, it’s the best club in the league, and I just really enjoy it here. Moving to Louisville City has helped my career a lot, giving me consistent minutes. In the past two years, I’ve developed as a player and person and just learned a lot about what it is to be a professional. That’s been huge growth for me.”

Coincidentally a one-time University of Louisville commitment, Harris instead turned professional and went on to become American soccer’s highest-scoring teenager in 2019. He tallied a dozen goals for Sporting KC II, then known as the Swope Park Rangers, before being named the USL Championship’s Young Player of the Year in 2020.

Harris totals 49 league goals entering next year. Should he net another before August 1, he’d become the fastest player to 50 USL Championship goals, surpassing Junior Flemmings’ mark of 24 years and 247 days.

The forward joins a strong core of returning players – 14 and counting as LouCity looks to build on last season’s ninth-straight run to the USL Championship Eastern Conference Final. More contract news will be announced soon in the run up to City’s 10th anniversary season.
