Mertz Earns Spot on TopDrawerSoccer and College Soccer News Team of the Week


PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer fifth year Landy Mertz secures a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer and College Soccer News Team of the Week, announced by both organizations this week. This is Mertz third honor on the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week this season.

The Pittsburgh, PA native was a propeller for Pitt’s outstanding performance against Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament First Round – producing three assists and a goal of her own on Saturday Night. At just the 28thminute of play, freshman Deborah Abiodun put Pitt on the board first after a wide cross from Mertz. Before heading into halftime, Mertz launched the ball from outside the box – arcing it in perfectly to hit the back post and sink in Pitt’s third goal of the night. The fifth year’s second assist came in the second half where she found Amanda West at the net and sent her a direct pass. Mertz collected her fifth and final point of the night on the Panthers’ sixth goal as she made space for Ellie Coffield who completed the goal from the top of the box.

Currently, Merz is ranked in the top-15 in the nation for assists per game (0.57), and total assists (12). She is ranked in the top-10 in the ACC for assists per game (0.57), shot accuracy (0.537), shots on goal per game (1.38), and total assists (12).
