Florida State Wins Fourth Consecutive ACC Women’s Soccer Title

CARY, N.C. (theACC.com) – Top-seeded Florida State claimed its fourth straight and 10th overall ACC title, as the Seminoles defeated No. 3 seed Clemson, 2-1, in the Championship final of the 2023 Ally ACC Women’s Soccer Championship.

With the win, FSU earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, as the Noles improved to 16-0-1 on the season. The NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament Selection Show is scheduled for Monday, November 6, at 4 p.m.

The 2023 ACC Offensive Player of the Year Onyi Echegini scored twice in the victory for her fourth brace of the season and third in her last six appearances. The London, England, native scored in each half, including a 56th-minute game-winner.

After Echegini scored in the seventh minute with a long-distance strike, Clemson equalized in the 29th minute when Mackenzie Duff found the back of the net. It was Duff’s second tally of the postseason.

Echegini’s game winner came on a Tiger turnover inside their own box and FSU’s Beata Olsson corralled the ball before sending a cross into the box that found the feet of Echegini for the goal. For her efforts, the Seminole midfielder earned Most Valuable Player honors.

The Seminoles outscored the Tigers 11-8 for the contest, while FSU goalkeeper Cristina Roque made three stops for the match, including two key stops in the second half.
