Indiana, Penn State Share Big Ten Men's Soccer Title

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The 2023 Big Ten Conference men’s soccer title race came down to the final day of the season. With all four of today’s results complete, Indiana and Penn State will share the title.

The Hoosiers and Nittany Lions closed their campaigns with matching 4-2-2 conference records.

Indiana scored a 4-1 victory over Rutgers today to secure their 17th Big Ten title. Hugo Bacharach put the Hoosiers ahead with a fifth minute goal, before Collins Oduro netted the eventual game-winning marker in the 23rd minute.  Bacharach was one of three Indiana goal scorers and totaled three points on the day.

Penn State raised its seventh Big Ten championship after earning a 1-1 draw at Wisconsin. Trailing 1-0 after the 14th minute, the Nittany Lions battled back to even the score on Van Danielson’s 67th minute goal. Penn State created a late scoring chance, but Atem Kato’s 89th minute shot attempt was saved.

The Big Ten Tournament will kick off Friday, Nov. 3, with quarterfinal matches on the campuses of the top four seeds. The winners of those matches will advance to the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 8, to be hosted by the two highest remaining seeds following the quarterfinals. The championship match will then be played on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the highest remaining seed.

Both semifinals and the championship match will be televised live on the Big Ten Network and can be streamed via the web, smartphones, tablets and connected devices through the FOX Sports App. The four quarterfinals will be streamed live on BTN’s digital subscription service, B1G+.
