No. 2 Bruins Defeat Cats, 4-1

TUCSON – The Arizona soccer team fell to second-ranked UCLA on Thursday, moving to 4-7-4 (1-5-1 Pac-12) while UCLA improved to 13-1-0 (7-0-0 Pac-12).

UCLA took an early lead when Lexi Wright took a shot in the 14th minute. Hope Hisey was there to make the save, but the ball deflected off Hisey onto defender Sarah Rice and into the net.

Arizona equalized in the 39th minute when Megan Chelf received a free kick. Chelf headed the ball into the area where Gianna Christiansen was ready to receive it send it into the net. The goal marked the first goal that UCLA had allowed in 434 minutes of play and was the second goal of the season for Christiansen.

 

UCLA took the lead back in the 54th minute when Rice committed a foul in the penalty area and Reilyn Turner sent the penalty kick past Hisey into the back left corner of the net.

The Bruins increased their lead in the 66th minute with a goal by Wright when she had the ball on the left side of the field. Wright sent the ball ahead of herself past the Arizona defender. She took a shot that was blocked by…
