CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The University of Miami soccer team dropped a 1-0 result to the Virginia Cavaliers Thursday evening at Klöckner Stadium.
The Hurricanes (3-8-4, 2-5-1 ACC) kept the Cavaliers (7-3-5, 2-3-3 ACC) in check through the first 65 minutes, but one transition opportunity proved to be the difference.
With Virginia on the counter, the Cavaliers wasted no time.
Freshman forward Allie Ross pushed the pace, looping a ball to sophomore Maggie Cagle. Cagle weaved her way into the box and served a ball toward the far post.
Sophomore midfielder Jill Flammia leaped in the air and headed home her first career game-winning goal.
Virginia natives Tusca Mahmoudpour and Lauren Meeks nearly found an equalizer for the Hurricanes in the closing minutes, but the Cavaliers keeper Cayla White capped off her fifth shutout of the year.
In the defeat, Miami netminder Melissa Dagenais posted six stops, bumping her career total to 254 saves.
Up next, the Hurricanes head to Virginia Tech to wrap up their road slate. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Thompson Field.
