DeGuzman and Weir named to TopDrawerSoccer top 100 freshmen list


LONG BEACH, CALIF. – Virginia Tech freshmen Samantha DeGuzman and Anna Weir were named to the TopDrawerSoccer  Midseason Top 100 Freshman list on Thursday, Oct. 12.

DeGuzman, a native of Manassas, Va., has recorded three goals and four assists this season making 13 match appearances for the Hokies. She logged her first career goal in the Hokies 3-0 shutout season-opener against Butler, assisted by Weir. 

She was also a vital part of Tech’s 4-1 victory over NC State on Oct. 5 recording one goal and one assist. 

Weir, a native of Acworth, Ga., has earned six points this season with two goals and two assists. Weir logged her first career goal in the 78th minute of the match versus James Madison as she chipped the goalkeeper, resulting in a 3-0 shutout victory for the Hokies. 

Her second goal of the season came in the 45th minute of the match versus Syracuse, Tech won 4-0. 

The Hokies return to the pitch on Oct. 15 in Charlottesville, Va. to take on Virginia in the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash at 1:30 p.m.
