College Soccer News Men’s National Team Of The Week – Week Ending August 27, 2023 – College Soccer News

Matthew Bell – Sophomore – Forward – Marshall – Bell scored three times to help power the Thundering Herd past the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in Marshall’s season opener. Lorenzio Boselli – Senior – Forward – Syracuse – Boselli converted a header after receiving a cross from Giona Leibold and drove a header into the back of the net out of a corner kick served in by Mateo Leveque to give the Orange the edge they needed to top Providence 2-0 in their season opener. Eduardo Mustre – Junior – Forward – FIU – Mustre scored twice to led FIU to a 2-1 season opening win over Oregon State in Corvallis. Taylor Calheira – Senior – Forward – UMBC – Calheira scored three times including the game-winning goal in UMBC’s season opening 4-3 win over a game George Mason team. Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos – Junior – Midfielder- Memphis – Rodrigues dos Santos scored the Tigers first goal and assisted on the goal scored by teammate Alberto Cruz to help propel Memphis past Green Bay 2-0 in their season opener. He also found the back of the net twice in their subsequent 3-1 win over the NIU Huskies. Andrew Shaffer – Sophomore – Midfielder – Bowling Green – Shaffer was a difference maker coming off the pine to score two goals in the second half of play to lead the Falcons to a 3-2 come from behind season opening win over Cleveland State. Jack Denton – Senior – Midfielder – Missouri State – Denton, the 2022 MVC Midfielder of the Year, scored the lone goal of the contest to give the Bears the edge they needed to upset Maryland 1-0 in College Park. Stefano Campisi – Junior – Midfielder – Gonzaga – Campisi alertly send the rebound of his own blocked shot into the back of the frame to get the Zags on the board in their season opening 2-1 win on the road over UC Riverside. He followed that up with a two assist and one goal evening in Gonzaga’s home season opening 5-1 victory over Sacramento State. Zach Bohane – Sophomore – Midfielder – Stanford – Bohane scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with an assist from Fletcher Bank in Stanford’s season opening 3-1 win over Creighton. He also scored twice and assisted on the goal scored by Noah Adnan to help the Cardinal top Georgetown 5-1. Kevin Carmichael – Junior – Defender – California – Carmichael put in a full shift in California’s 1-1 tie on the road with UNCG and 1-1 tie with Wake Forest.
