May 12, 2023 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)Sacramento Republic FC News Release

Sacramento, CA – Today, Republic FC and the Sacramento Region Spare The Air program announced a new initiative for improving air quality and making the region a healthier place to live. From now through the end of the 2023 season, Spare The Air will sponsor the free bike parking area at all Republic FC home matches, making it easier for fans that use alternative modes of transportation on gameday.

“We can all contribute – both individually and collectively – toward creating a healthier and stronger community in Sacramento,” said Republic FC President and General Manager Todd Dunivant. “As a soccer club, we enjoy providing various ways for people to stay active – this includes our youth camps throughout the summer, encouraging our staff to bike to work, outdoor community fitness events at the stadium, and now we are thrilled to offer bike parking at our home games to encourage our fans to use new modes of transportation on gameday and beyond. We are proud that several of our Indomitable fans have trekked to away matches via bicycle, and we want to make it as easy as possible to do the same for our home matches.”

“There are many ways that residents can help improve air quality and protect their health, whether they’re at home or headed out to a Republic FC match,” said Jamie Arno, program supervisor with the Sac Metro Air District. “By making simple changes and efforts in our everyday lives – such as choosing to bike to the stadium, driving a zero emission vehicle, or taking public transit – we can come together to make a bigger impact on the region.”

The bike parking area is located just outside the main gate at Heart Health Park. Cyclists will be able to lock up their bikes and equipment and a nearby attendant will help keep gear secure until the end of the match. Fans are encouraged to access Cal Expo through the main entrance on Exposition Boulevard or via the American River Parkway / Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail that goes to the West side of the parking lot.

The Sac Metro Air District, on behalf of the air districts of the Sacramento region, administers the annual Spare The Air program from May 1 through October 31 to encourage residents to drive less and protect their health when air quality is poor. The campaign encourages teleworking, taking public transit, carpooling, or using active transportation options such as walking, biking, or riding a scooter….
