2023 Regular Season Mini Plans Available Now

May 12, 2023 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)Monterey Bay FC News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – Monterey Bay F.C. (3-2-4, 13 points) travels to Albuquerque for a 6 p.m. PT kickoff in a return to league play on Saturday against New Mexico United (2-3-2, 8 points) at Isotopes Park in Week 10 of the 2023 USL Championship regular season. Live streaming of the match will be available on ESPN+.

In the previous meeting between the sides, the Crisp and Kelp battered New Mexico United at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside. After conceding to the visitors in the 12th minute, Monterey Bay ripped off four consecutive goals to take a commanding lead before conceding once more to win 4-2 at home. A goal from the current league-leader Alex Dixon leveled the match in the 33rd minute just seven minutes before a goal from Sam Gleadle captured the lead just before the half. In the second half, Christian Volesky – USL Championship’s Player of the Month for April – added two goals of his own to cushion the lead and secure the full three points for the Union on the night.

Saturday’s match will be the fourth regular-season matchup between the two clubs, with the all-time record currently even at 1-1-1 and a 5-5 goals scored/allowed total. The matchup will be just the second at Isotopes Park, however, a venue in which the Union lost their only meeting last August.

Monterey Bay F.C. comes into the match following an emotional, penalty shootout loss to Major League Soccer (MLS) side LAFC in the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 on Tuesday. However, New Mexico United enters the match under similar circumstances, as their U.S. Open Cup run ended midweek with a loss to MLS side Austin FC. Now, both sides are tasked with hitting the reset button in a short turnaround.

“We have to put everything behind us, all of the emotions obviously,” said Volesky. “A lot of us played a lot of minutes as well, but we have to regroup. We talked about it on Wednesday morning – we’re turning the page and putting all of our attention towards Saturday. We have to refocus on the league now.”
