Atlético Ottawa will write another page into the club’s young history book on Tuesday evening as we take on Forge FC of Hamilton, ON, in the Canadian Championship quarter-finals.
Canada’s domestic cup competition continues this week with Atlético Ottawa facing Forge FC in the Canadian Championship quarter-finals – their first clash in this annual tournament and the club’s first appearance at this stage – with the winner set to take on Major League Soccer opposition.
Fans travelling down to Hamilton for the game can purchase tickets with their fellow Atleti Family fans and for those staying in the nation’s capital, you can join us and the Capital City Supporters Group at the Glebe Central Pub on Bank St. from 6 p.m. ET onwards (kick-off 7 p.m. live on OneSoccer) but make sure you arrive in plenty of time as places are limited!
A convincing victory over Halifax Wanderers, played at a neutral venue, in the preliminary round was an early highlight of the 2023 campaign, as over 70 travelling fans made their way to York Lions Stadium. Goals from record goal-scorer Malcolm Shaw, Diego Espejo (the Spanish defender’s first for the club) and Gatineau-born Maxim Tissot saw Atlético come from behind to win 3-1 and advance to the next round for the first time in club history.
Last season, Ottawa pipped Forge FC to the regular season title as we split results in four encounters (1W-2D-1L) with the victories favouring the away team, before Head Coach Bobby Smyrniotis’ side ultimately came out victorious in the fifth and final encounter: the Canadian Premier League Playoff Final in front of 15,000 fans at TD Place.
The winner of tomorrow’s clash at Tim Horton’s Field will face MLS opposition as Toronto FC and CF Montréal meet in the adjoining bracket. Elsewhere, York United host the Vancouver Whitecaps and semi-professional side TSS Rovers (of League1 BC) travel to Victoria on Vancouver Island to take on Pacific FC.
