PISCATAWAY, N.J. – After her senior season in 2022, Rutgers women’s soccer back Allison Lynch had one more year left of college eligibility. With four seasons and plenty of experience to her name, the veteran, without a doubt in her mind, announced her intention to play at Rutgers for a fifth and final season in 2023. With her fifth and final year being a few months away, the Bridgewater, New Jersey native looks to end her career with the Scarlet Knights on a high note.

Starting right away as a first-year in 2019, Lynch became a steady anchor on the back line for this women’s soccer program. Starting in 20 of 21 games, she totaled over 1,700 minutes in her first season of collegiate soccer. From there, Lynch has started in 78 total games and has played nearly 6,900 minutes of action over a four-year span. With three goals – two of which came against Minnesota in 2021 and 2022 – nine total points, and a career average of roughly 84 minutes a game, her consistency in front of Rutgers’ netminders has been shown through thick and thin. With the most minutes played during the regular season last year, Lynch averaged 88.2 minutes of gameplay when leading a back line that allowed 12 goals in 18 games, and just three goals during the first nine matches of the season.

“Coming back for a fifth season was a no-brainer for me,” said Lynch. “I’m not ready to leave and the time I have had here has been so special. I gained a second family with every person I have met, and I have gained a second home here at Rutgers. I’m not ready to say goodbye yet.”

As last season began with a historic 9-0-0 start and a ranking of No. 4 nationwide for the Scarlet Knights, her fourth campaign started with a bang. Lynch is a big part of the cultural mindset of getting better each match and each season. So when Rutgers could not match or exceed its 2021 College Cup finish in 2022, leaders like Lynch do not take that lightly.

“The way last season ended left us with some unfinished business,” Lynch said. “Even though we started the season undefeated, we weren’t happy with that and I think that shows the high standard Rutgers has. There was disappointment in the way the season ended, but there are a lot of learning moments that have come from it. We took the positives and negatives to end last year and now we’re ready to tackle this next…
