MONTRÉAL – Orlando City SC (4-4-2, 14 points) dropped a 2-0 decision to CF Montréal (4-6-0, 10 points) on Saturday night.

The Lions fell behind after goals in quick succession for the hosts. The scoring opened with an own goal from Robin Jansson in the 62nd minute after a deflected-shot from Aaron Herrera. Montréal then added to their lead four minutes later with a goal from Romell Quioto.

The Lions next head to Charlotte FC to begin their defense of their Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title on Tuesday, May 9. That match is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. ET from the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex at Matthews on the CBS Sports Golazo Network.

Scoring Summary:

62′ Robin Jansson (Own Goal) – MTL 1, ORL 0

The hosts broke the deadlock just after the 60-minute mark with Montréal getting off a few shots in rapid succession. The ball popped out to Aaron Herrera just outside the box and took a shot, deflecting off Robin Jansson and into the back of the net for an own goal.

66′ Romell Quioto (Aaron Herrera, Bryce Duke) – MTL 2, ORL 0

CF Montréal would add to their lead just four minutes later with Aaron Herrera and Bryce Duke combining some quick passing before the former fired in a cross to Romell Quioto at the penalty spot. Quioto slammed home a low shot for the hosts’ second of the night.

Head Coach Oscar Pareja:

“Well, again with two very different phases from our performance in the first half. I thought we dominated the game, I thought it was very clear with the actions that the boys put on the pitch and had enough actions to a level the score and surely just believed in it. But we came out to the half with a 0-0, that it was a dangerous reaction from Montreal in the second half, it made a difference. We started probably shy, we were not the same. And then they started tting the spaces in the flanks and they were fine and precise more than us. Every team has a half but we couldn’t score in the first and the second one Montreal did.”

Match Notes:

Midfielder César Araújo notched his 50th appearance in all competitions as a Lion with the start in the match.

With the start on Saturday night, Forward Ercan Kara played in his 40th match for Orlando City across all competitions.

Head Coach Oscar Pareja made no changes to his starting lineup from his side’s matchup against LA Galaxy.
