SEASIDE, California – Monterey Bay F.C. (3-2-4, 13 points) earned a point at home with a 2-2 draw against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (2-2-5, 11 points) at Cardinale Stadium, presented by Taylor Farms. Alex Dixon scored against his former team with a goal in the first half, and Christian Volesky capped off a two-goal contribution night with a stoppage time equalizer to secure a point on the night and extend the Union’s unbeaten streak to seven matches in all competitions.

Monterey Bay controlled possession to start the match, but it was Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC that scored first. Against the run of play in the 16th minute, the visitors turned the Union over near the halfway line to spurn a two-on-one counter attack that resulted in Robert Dikwa sliding the ball under the goalkeeper and across the line for the opening score. Then just before the half in the 44th minute, Monterey Bay found the equalizer. Following a spell of possession for the Union, Morey Doner whipped a ball into the area to Volesky, who then flicked it onward with his first touch Dixon. Between two defenders inside the box, Dixon brought the ball down and fired it into the back of the net to bring the match level at 1-1 into the halftime break.

The Riverhounds were awarded a penalty kick in the 57th minute of the match following a tackle inside the box by the Monterey Bay defense. Dikwa stepped up to the spot for a chance at his second goal of the night, but his shot was saved by Antony Siaha at the bottom-right corner of the frame to deny the visitors the second-half lead. In the 74th minute, however, Dikwa would find his second when he capitalized on a loose ball in the Union 18-yard box to retake the lead for Pittsburgh 2-1. The Crisp and Kelp earned a chance in the 86th minute of the match when Volesky played Walmer Martínez into the box on the left side, but Martínez’ cross into the mixer was cleared out for a corner. Then in the 90+1 minute, Adrian Rebollar crossed the ball across the face of goal and Volesky smashed the equalizer into the back of the net from the doorstep to steal a point from the visitors with a 2-2 draw.
