Dean Henderson is set to leave Manchester United this summer after being left frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities, according to reports.
The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest. However, injuries and the arrival of Keylor Navas have seen him fall down the pecking order at the City Ground, too.
Henderson certainly has the quality to be a top goalkeeper on his day, so it will be interesting to see if any Premier League clubs come in for him this summer.
This is according to Football Insider, who claim that Henderson will look to leave Old Trafford permanently at the end of the season, as he doesn’t want to compete with David de Gea for a starting spot next term.
The Spanish shot-stopper is believed to be in talks with Man Utd over a new contract. With that in mind, it seems unlikely Henderson would be able to break into Ten Hag’s starting XI.
As mentioned, Henderson is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest. But, despite initially getting some first-team action, he has fallen down the pecking order since Navas’ arrival at the City Ground in January.
Overall, the once-capped England international has made 18 Premier League appearances for the Tricky Trees. He has conceded 31 goals, but also kept six clean sheets in the process.
As previously noted by Football365, Forest boss Steve Cooper has claimed that Henderson is ‘unlikely to play again this season’ after picking up a thigh injury in training.
Although, it seems unlikely he would be playing again this season regardless, due to Navas’ arrival. Although, the ex-Real Madrid keeper is only on loan, so will return to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
With that in mind, Forest are reportedly ‘open’ to signing Henderson permanently this summer. But, they will only do so if they secure their Premier League status.
Henderson is under contract at Man Utd until 2025, though, so Forest will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal over the line.
Cooper’s team currently sit in 17th place in the table, just one point adrift from the bottom three. While Southampton look destined for the drop, it looks like it will be between Forest, Everton, Leeds and Leicester to battle it out for survival
Forest picked up a valuable three points after beating high-flyers Brighton last week, but were dealt a heavy blow by Brentford on Saturday, who scored a 94th-minute winner to take all three points.
