SEASIDE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes fell to Monterey Bay F.C. 1-0 in the Third Round of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night in Seaside, Calif. The result eliminates the Quakes from the U.S. Open Cup.

The Earthquakes had seven player rotations in their starting lineup, with only Cade Cowell, Paul Marie, Rodrigues, and Jackson Yueill having started at least nine regular season matches to date. Monterey Bay F.C. opened the scoring in the 26th minute through forward Christian Volesky after taking advantage of a Quakes mistouch. San Jose responded with 13 shots but were unable to find the equalizer.

The Earthquakes will now return to MLS action and face Austin FC on the road on Saturday, April 29. The match will kick off from Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas at 5:30 p.m. PT and will be streamed globally on MLS Season Pass (Apple TV), as well as on local radio via 810 AM The Spread (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).

GAME NOTES

The Quakes are now 20-18 all-time in U.S. Open Cup competition, including a 10-11 record as the road team.

The Earthquakes now hold a 0-1 record in U.S. Open Cup play against Monterey Bay, including a 0-1 record on the road.
