Liverpool discover £77m release clause for teen defender as Spurs ‘line up offer’ for Klopp target

Liverpool target Antonio Silva runs

Premier League side Liverpool are interested in signing Benfica teenager Antonio Silva in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Reds are having a poor season in the Premier League with Jurgen Klopp’s side currently seventh in the Premier League and out of all cup competitions.

Two victories in their last two matches against Leeds United and Nottingham Forest have given supporters hope they still have an outside chance of finishing in the top four this season.

Liverpool are currently nine points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United – who occupy the final Champions League spot – having played a game more, but the Reds could do with the money to help fund moves in the summer market.

A lot of the blame for their poor campaign has been put on the midfield and defence this season with reports claiming those will be the main two areas Liverpool look to improve in the summer.

Liverpool have had an unsettled centre-back partnership this season, due to loss of form and injury, with Klopp targeting a new centre-back.

And Football Insider claim that Liverpool ‘have sent scouts to watch’ Benfica’s Silva as they look to strengthen the depth in that area of their squad with rumours Joel Matip could leave in the summer.

Benfica are ‘preparing for a huge battle for his signature at the end of the season’ with Manchester City and Manchester United also reportedly interested.

And Liverpool have found out that Silva’s ‘release clause at the Portuguese club is believed to be £77million as the Reds look towards a deal this summer’.

Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha is another player on Liverpool’s radar this summer with a previous report claiming they have identified him as an alternative to Jude Bellingham after pulling out of the race to sign the Dortmund midfielder.

And now Football Insider claims rivals Tottenham ‘are one of the Premier League sides ready to swoop’ for Palhinha this summer after a brilliant first season in England.

Football Insider adds: ‘Fulham are now aware of growing interest in his services as the summer transfer window approaches.

‘It is believed that Spurs, along with Chelsea and Man United, are ready to launch moves for the Portugal international in the off-season.’

The report only mentions Liverpool as having scouted Palhinha and it remains to be seen if they will actually make a move for him over the summer.
