April 26, 2023 – Major League Soccer (MLS)New York City FC News Release

New York City Football Club travel to Toronto FC this Saturday.

The Boys in Blue are in action in a 7:30pm ET kick-off at BMO Field, on the hunt for a third straight win.

Ahead of the game, we Flashback to three great games against The Hoops…

A First For Frank

A memorable night for Frank Lampard…

The midfielder opened his NYCFC goal scoring account to break the deadlock when the two sides locked horns at Yankee Stadium in September 2015.

The third meeting of our maiden campaign saw City claim our second win over The Hoops, having triumphed 2-0 at BMO Field before contesting an eight-goal thriller in the Bronx.

The City Boys opened the scoring of this encounter on the 20-minute mark, courtesy of Lampard’s long-awaited first for the Club.

Andrea Pirlo unlocked the Toronto defense with a trademark clipped pass into RJ Allen’s path, and the defender cut back for Lampard to control on the chest and fire into the far corner.

Having kept the visitors at bay with a combination of solid defending and fine Josh Saunders saves, the home side doubled the lead with 13 minutes left on the clock, courtesy of another pinpoint Pirlo delivery, as the Italian whipped in a corner for Patrick Mullins to power home, and seal the points.

Domènec Torrent’s first game in charge of NYCFC saw the Boys in Blue face the reigning MLS Champions in June 2018, with City edging a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

The hosts had to come from behind to claim the points, on a night to remember for Jo Inge Berget.

The Norwegian’s second and third goals for the Club turned the game on its head in the second half in the Bronx, after Víctor Vázquez had drawn first blood for the visitors.

Berget’s brilliant backheel leveled the score shortly after the restart, and he doubled his personal tally midway through the second period, latching onto Maxi Moralez’s and drilling home to hand Torrent his first win in charge at the first attempt.

Chanot’s Century

One goal to win it, on Maxime Chanot’s 100th MLS appearance…

NYCFC and Toronto were familiar foe in the disrupted 2020 campaign, going head-to-head on four occasions in total.

The Canadian side had emerged victorious in our final game before the season was curtailed, and the pair met again in MLS Is Back competition with City triumphing 3-1.

Two more encounters would follow after the regular season resumed, and the Boys in Blue would…
