Timbers Fall Short to LAFC with 3-2 Road Result

CINCINNATI – The Portland Timbers dropped a 2-1 result to FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium on Saturday evening. Dairon Asprilla scored in a second-straight match for the Timbers, tallying the lone Portland goal tonight. The Timbers will return home for a midweek match to open their 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup account, hosting Orange County SC in the third round on April 26; kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific) at Providence Park.


Asprilla in Action

Asprilla has scored in consecutive matches and joined Juan David Mosquera as the only two Portland players with multiple goals in the 2023 campaign thus far. In just four appearances (3 starts) this season, the Colombian international has recorded two goals and an assist, tallying five points. Notably, each of his goal contributions have come when the Timbers have been trailing in the match. The goal marked Asprilla’s 10th in his last 18 appearances for Portland dating back to July 3, 2022, with three assists in that timeframe as well.

CIN – Brandon Vazquez (Sergio Santos), 58th minute: At the corner of the six-yard box, Sergio Santos played a short central pass for Brandon Vazquez, who finished a one-time shot with his left foot into the back of the net.

POR – Dairon Asprilla, 60th minute: From the right-side endline, Santiago Moreno drove a cross into the six-yard box, forcing a save from Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano. Dairon Asprilla pounced on the loose ball and put it into the back of the net.
