Pep claims ‘journalists in the sky’ ask about Man City treble as journalist asks about Man City treble

Guardiola on Man City win

Pep Guardiola insists he is not getting excited at a possible Manchester City treble and only “journalists in the sky” would ask about it, after a journalist asked about it.

City are now four points off Arsenal in top spot in the Premier League, are through to the Champions League semi-finals after easing past Bayern Munich, and face Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.

Despite that, Guardiola insists city are too “far away” to be considering the treble.

He said: “I’m so happy that you asked ten questions without asking about the treble. The other journalists are not in the sky that might be why. Look how far away before we talk about that.

“Just 11 games, yeah, yeah, just 11 games. We’re far away. I’ve said many times, how many times in this amazing country have a treble been done? It’s one. Our neighbours.

“[Getting excited] About the treble? Not at all.”

After their clash at Wembley City face the potentially decisive visit of Arsenal in the Premier League on Wednesday, but the City boss insists any rotation won’t be due to him prioritising one game over another.

He said: “No, no. I saw we have four days. One more day than we have now. We wanted to play on Sunday but I understand United played yesterday so they have to play on Sunday.

“When I rotate team it’s not because it’s an FA Cup semi-final it’s because it was after a demanding, demanding game. I will have to debate with my staff what’s the best.”

With such a packed schedule, that rotation will be necessary if City are indeed to go on and win all three competitions.

But Guardiola reckons that “fatigue converts to energy” when “the mind is positive”.

He added: “On the other side it’s amazing to be here knowing we can reach a final. When you have this desire to still be there the fatigue converts to energy, something positive. We fight every game to be there. The human being has an incredible ability to regenerate if the mind is positive.”
