Man Utd submit ‘letter of interest’ for £62m Arsenal target as the Red Devils fan studies ‘buffet’

Man Utd target Rasmus Hojlund looks for the ball

Man Utd have made it clear that they are interested in signing Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund this summer, according to reports.

The Denmark international, who moved to Atalanta from Sturm Graz for around €17m, is having a solid first season in Serie A with the 20-year-old contributing eight goals and two assists in 28 matches (16 from the start) in all competitions.

And his form has not gone unnoticed by top clubs around Europe with Hojlund making his talent known in the recent international break too.

Hojlund produced two man-of-the-match performances as he scored five goals in Denmark’s 3-1 win over Finland and 3-2 defeat to Kazakhstan.

Reports earlier this year put Atalanta’s asking price for him between £23-31m but another story around a week ago insisted that his recent performances will see the Serie A club demand £57.5m-£62m.

There have been claims Arsenal will make an offer for Hojlund ahead of the summer transfer window while reported interest from Man Utd has also ramped up in recent months.

Man Utd have one advantage with Hojlund declaring that he was a Red Devils fan in an interview at the beginning of this year.

“Now that you ask, I will not hide the fact that I am a huge Manchester United fan,” Hojlund said back in January.

“So personally, it would be one of the biggest things for me, but of course that doesn’t mean that I would turn down other big clubs if the offers come at some point.”

And now Danish outlet BT claim that ‘some of the biggest clubs in the world are courting’ Hojlund ahead of the summer transfer window.

They add that it’s Man Utd and Real Madrid ‘who have concretely shown their interest in the form of a so-called letter of interest – a written statement that the two clubs are interested in the Dane ahead of the summer transfer window.’

Hojlund is understood to be ‘one of three to five’ options that the two clubs are looking at with both looking to improve their forward areas.

Although Atalanta have not yet received a bid from Man Utd or Real Madrid, it is seen as a ‘clear indication that the two giants have big thoughts about the Danish golden boy’.

Hojlund is currently without an agent and only when he appoints a new representative will he start looking at the ‘overwhelming buffet of European big clubs’.

The report names Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus, Milan, Napoli, Barcelona, Bayern Munich as clubs ‘expected to be in the hunt for Hojlund this summer’.
