Owen names ‘absolute must’ signing Man Utd need to challenge City and Arsenal for Premier League

Owen speaks on Man Utd

Michael Owen thinks Manchester United are still “short on quality” when you compare their squad to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.

Erik ten Hag has done a great job since joining Man Utd last summer. Under him, they have ended their trophy drought by lifting the Carabao Cup.

They also remain in contention for the FA Cup and Europa League and they are on track to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Man Utd will be expected to kick on again next season and put in a sustained challenge for the Premier League title. As things stand, they are 15 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal with one game in hand.

“I think their squad is getting better. As I say, Ten Hag is doing a very good job and he looks like he’s going to be the right man. But I do think they’re short on quality compared to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City at the moment.”

He continued: “If they finish in the top four, then I’d say it’s a massively successful season. Let’s remember where Manchester United have been for the last decade since Sir Alex Ferguson left.
