Atlético Ottawa kicked off their Canadian Premier League (CPL) campaign in a competitive draw at home to Halifax Wanderers in front of a staggering crowd of over 7,000 people in the spring sunshine. Ottawa’s busy opening week continues on Wednesday with the start of their Canadian Championship run against the same opponents, as they face Halifax Wanderers at a neutral venue (York Lions Stadium) at 5 PM ET (Live on OneSoccer).

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Wednesday’s Canadian Championship clash.

The Canadian Championship is the nation’s highest men’s domestic competition.

The competition features Canada’s three Major League Soccer (MLS) franchises as well as the eight CPL clubs and the winners of League1 BC and Première ligue de soccer du Québec (PLSQ) from 2022.

Winners of this year’s Canadian Championship, also known as the Battle of the North, will lift the Voyageurs Cup and qualify for the 2023 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.

Atlético Ottawa is seeking its first victory in the competition, having been eliminated in the first round against Valour FC and York United FC in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

Atleti is facilitating travel for over 50 dedicated Season Seat Members to attend the match in York.

Head Coach Carlos González gave six players their competitive debuts for Atlético in the home opener against Halifax at the weekend, including former Wanderers striker Samuel Salter.

Atlético came from behind to draw 1-1 with Wednesday’s opponents last weekend.

Last year’s Player and Player’s Player of the Season, Ollie Bassett, returned with a bang for his second year in the capital as he scored Atleti’s equalizing goal and came close to a late winner.

Record head-to-head (all-time): 5W-3D-4L; 14 goals scored, 12 goals conceded.
