Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams after being impressed by his performances this season.

The United States international could be one of several big names to leave Elland Road this summer, especially if they are relegated to the Championship.

It’s no secret that Eddie Howe is looking to add reinforcements to his midfield ahead of next season, so it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see Newcastle come in for Adams.

According to the Times, Newcastle are one of several European clubs who have been ‘keeping tabs’ on the midfielder.

Indeed, as previously reported by Football365, Adams has also been targeted by Manchester United, so the Magpies will face competition for his signature.

The American joined Leeds for £20m last summer and is under contract until 2027 and Javi Gracia is believed to be desperate to keep hold of him for next season.

However, as mentioned, if the Whites get relegated, they could be forced into selling some of their prized assets and Adams certainly fits into that category.

Leeds currently sit fifth-bottom of the Premier League table – two points outside the drop zone as it stands.

After losing 5-1 to fellow strugglers Crystal Palace and then 6-1 to Liverpool on Monday, Gracia’s team seem to be on a downward spiral.

Newcastle, on the other hand, are enjoying a tremendous season under Howe and are currently in with a great chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

If they do, the Magpies will reportedly look to make at least four big-money signings this summer and one of the areas they are looking at improving is in midfield.

Declan Rice, Moises Caicedo, Kalvin Philips and Conor Gallagher are all on Newcastle’s radar, but if the Times report is to be believed, Adams can now also be added to that list.

The American has made 24 appearances for Leeds in the Premier League this term, so far failing to make a single goal contribution.

But, Adams’ best attributes are his ability break up opposition attacks and also, his passing.

Overall, he has averaged 3.7 successful tackles and 1.5 interceptions per 90 minutes, as well as having a solid pass success rate of 82.4%.

With that in mind – he could prove to be an ideal midfield partner for the likes of Bruno Guimaraes or Joelinton at Newcastle.

Leeds are, though, keen to keep hold of Adams, so the Magpies will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a summer deal over the line.
