Ilkay Gundogan is solely focused on achieving the treble with City, despite an uncertain future

Man City captain Ilkay Gundogan’s agent insists ‘there’s no agreement with any club’ despite claims the German international ‘had agreed a two-year deal with Barcelona worth £10.7m-a-year’

Ilkay Gundogan‘s agent has hit out at rumours that the midfielder is close to a move to Barcelona after his contract with Manchester City expires at the end of the season, according to reports.

The City captain has been heavily linked with the Catalan giants, who are looking to bolster their midfield during this summer’s transfer window.

Discussions are still ongoing between the German international and his current club, where he joined in 2016, and there is hope that he might prolong his stay in Manchester.

But there will be fervent competition for the services of the 32-year-old after his excellent campaign for City this season.

And reports from Spain suggest that Barca are prepared to offer the midfielder a two-year deal, on a salary of around £10.7million-per-year (€12m), with an agreement though to have been in place between both parties for weeks.

Despite this, his agent – and uncle – Ilhan Gundogan says that the player is single-mindedly focused on achieving the treble with City before the season’s end with the Citizens still fighting for the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.

As per Diario AS, Ilhan said that he was ‘surprised’ to hear rumours of a confirmed deal with the Blaugrana.

‘I’m surprised at where the stories come from about a deal being closed for many weeks’, Ilhan stated.

‘There’s no agreement with any club. It’s not yet decided where he will play for the next few years.

‘Ilkay can still win three major trophies this season as City captain. That’s the only thing he’s focused on right now.’

Barcelona’s manager Xavi has reportedly made a special request for Gundogan amidst the financial turmoil that will dictate the club’s upcoming transfer window.

Barca must slash their wage bill to sign new players to the tune of £178million.
