Aggies End Spring Slate with Flurry of Goals - Texas A&M Athletics

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M soccer team wrapped up its spring schedule with a 4-0 victory over the UTSA Roadrunners in Saturday’s action on Ellis Field.

The Aggies also played Texas State to a 1-1 draw in Saturday’s series of 60-minute mini-matches. The Maroon & White closed out the vernal slate with a 4-1-2 ledger, yielding just three goals in 450 minutes of action for a 0.60 goals-against average.

Mia Pante had three assists on the day, including two on corner kicks, to spark the offensive arsenal. The Aggies boasted five goal scorers on the day, including Maile Hayes, Jazmine Wilkinson, Quinn Cornog, Kenna Caldwell and Taylor Jernigan.

In the lid lifter, Texas State broke the scoring seal nine minutes into the second half. Texas A&M answered back just over nine minutes later with Pante sending a diagonal cross in from the right side of the penalty box, finding Hayes for the goal.

The Aggies outshot Texas State 10-2 for the match, including 4-2 in shots and goal. Texas A&M also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Maroon & White needed just 2:15 to break the ice in the late game. Pante sent a corner kick in and found fellow British Columbia native Wilkinson for the goal.

The teams went into the intermission tied 1-1, but the Aggies piled on the goals in the second stanza. Pante served a corner kick that Cornog headed home at the midway point of the half. With just under seven minutes remaining, keeper Caldwell, who also recorded a shutout with three saves in the second match, lofted a free kick from midfield over the head of the Roadrunners’ netminder for a goal. With just over four minutes remaining, Georgia Leb set a corner kick in from the left side and Reese Rupe redirected it to Jernigan for the goal.

Texas A&M overwhelmed UTSA in shots (15-4), shots-on-goal (7-3) and corner kicks (5-0).

The Aggies will next be in action on Sunday, Aug. 6 when they host SMU for one of the two fall exhibition matches at Ellis Field. The regular season starts on Thursday, Aug. 17 with a home match against College Cup participant Florida State.
