Tottenham want Napoli star to replace player in starting XI

Reported Tottenham targets Alex Meret and Kim Min-jae before a match

Tottenham are interested in signing Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret to replace club captain Hugo Lloris, according to reports in Italy.

Lloris has been gradually declining and it is probably time the Londoners move on from the experienced Frenchman.

It remains to be seen what the club’s future manager will want to do, however.

Former boss Mauricio Pochettino is being linked with a return to The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, though Brendan Rodgers – who was recently sacked by Leicester – is the current favourite.

Brentford’s David Raya is one goalkeeper being linked with a move to north London and Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that he will not sign a new Bees contract – making him available for €40million (£35m) this summer.

Raya has plenty of Premier League experience and has displayed an excellent ability to play with the ball at his feet, which is something Lloris certainly does not excel in.

However, it is being reported by Napoli Calcio Live that Tottenham have made Naples No. 1 Meret a summer target.

The 26-year-old has been one of many impressive players for Napoli this season.

The Naples outfit are closing in on their first Serie A title since 1990 and face domestic rivals AC Milan in the quarter-final of the Champions League.

While Meret has impressed, the majority of Napoli’s success has been down to the form of Victor Osimhen, Kim Min-jae, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The report states that the goalkeeper was not convincing when he first joined Napoli but has ‘turned the page and is confirming itself as one of the best in its role’.

His performances have ‘not gone unnoticed at top clubs’, and Tottenham, apparently…

Many teams are preparing to ‘knock on the door’ with Napoli expected to ask for at least €40m.

Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti is ‘worried’ with the idea of losing Meret this summer ‘definitely strong’.

Meret’s performances this term have ‘convinced’ Spurs and is ‘really liked’ by the club’s hierarchy.

‘The time has come’ for Lloris to become their second-choice goalkeeper due to his ‘unconvincing’ performances this season.

Spalletti is prepared to do ‘everything’ to ‘oppose’ the sale of Meret, the report adds.
