Neville points out perfect opportunity to sign ‘sensational’ Liverpool star ‘a lot of teams need’

Gary Neville has admitted “someone is getting a very good player” in Roberto Firmino, as the “absolutely sensational” Liverpool forward is the type of player “a lot of teams need”.

Firmino has been one of the Reds’ most influential assets going forwards during his time at the club. The Brazilian has scored 109 goals and provided 79 assists in 359 games for them.

After a lean campaign last season, he’s been back to his best this term. In 22 Premier League games – only 12 of those appearances coming from the start – he’s scored nine goals and provided four assists.

The upturn in form has come just in time for him to convince a new club to sign him. Indeed, in March, Firmino announced his decision to move on at the end of the season, when his contract is up.

Former Manchester United player Neville feels there could be a good chance for another Premier League side to snare him, and wherever he goes, he will add value to the side.

“Someone is getting a very, very good player. If he wanted to stay in this country, he’d be at another top-six club. I think he’s an absolutely sensational player, Roberto Firmino,” he said on Sky Sports Premier League.

“What he’s done here at Liverpool has been fantastic. He’s obviously losing a little bit of his physicality, but his skill is still there, his composure is still there, and a lot of teams need a player like that up front.”

Indeed, there could well be sides queuing up to take the Brazilian on board for next season. Whether or not that is another Premier League side remains to be the same.

As Neville suggests, he still has the skill to be an impactful player for a big side in this country, it seems he simply wanted a change after eight years at Anfield.

Newcastle have been mooted as a potential location. Were the Magpies to snare a player who’s contributed to more than 100 Premier League goals, it would surely be a move that would aid their upwards trajectory.

There have also been links to a move to the continent. Big names Barcelona and Inter Milan have been suggested as potential locations.

The ilk of teams that Firmino is being linked with reinforce just how good of a player he still is.
