Guardiola issues huge Haaland update as Man City boss looks ahead to crucial Southampton clash

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has declared that Erling Haaland could be available for their clash against Southampton on Saturday.

This will come as a major boost to his team’s title hopes, with the Cityzens currently trailing league leaders Arsenal by eight points with one game in hand.

Guardiola also gave his thoughts on the return of Frank Lampard and told us the secret on how not to get sacked.

City head to St. Mary’s with both sides desperate for three points.

The Saints currently find themselves bottom of the Premier League table, but are just four points away from safety and with a big win they could boost their survival hopes massively.

City will face a third different Southampton manager in the same season this weekend, this time Ruben Selles, which Guardiola thinks will make the task more difficult.

“If manager was appointed yesterday it would be difficult but they’ve played a few games with the new manager,” he said.

“The patterns are quite clear. Every team is playing for something, a fight for the Premier League and a fight to be in the Premier League. Every game has its own characteristic and you have to be ready.

“Southampton have always been so tough there, the game we made it to 100 points they were much better than us, we’ve drawn before. It’s tough and I have a feeling tomorrow won’t be an exception.”

When asked if Haaland will be fit on Saturday, Guardiola said: “He trained the last two days, really good. He will be ready. Bayern Munich is my last thought.”

Haaland’s return is bad news for Southampton, but great news for City after the striker has scored a stunning 28 Premier League goals already this season.

If he can continue his previous form, the Premier League champions could still have a chance of defending their title.

On the title race, Guardiola has remained hopeful, saying: “If we drop points Arsenal will be champions in advance, if we win, win, win, we might be champions at the end of the season.

“We are used to it, it’s not a problem.”

Next, the focus turned to Lampard, who was reinstated as Chelsea manager on Thursday and will take the helm at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season

According to reports, Guardiola allegedly invited the ex-England to dinner after being sacked as Everton manager in January.

When asked if his invite still stands, he said: “No, we were in touch when he was at Everton but pretty sure now he’ll be busy.

“Maybe at the end of the season….
