FC Cincinnati to Host Louisville City FC in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Third Round

FC Cincinnati Announce Roster for 2023 Preseason

April 6, 2023 – Major League Soccer (MLS)FC Cincinnati News Release

FC Cincinnati are set to host Louisville City FC of the USL Championship in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on April 26 at TQL Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, and broadcast information will be announced at a later date.

The Third Round welcomes 18 MLS clubs, including FC Cincinnati, into the annual, single-elimination competition, with the remaining eight MLS clubs joining in the Round of 32. Those clubs include CONCACAF Champions League participants Austin FC, LAFC, Orlando City SC and Philadelphia Union, as well as the top-two teams from each conference, determined by 2022 season standings (FC Dallas, LA Galaxy, NYCFC and New York Red Bulls).

FC Cincinnati will meet their old USL foes for the first time since the 2019 U.S. Open Cup Fourth Round, when the Orange and Blue defeated Louisville City FC 2-1 after extra time at Nippert Stadium. This season’s matchup will mark the third all-time meeting between the regional rivals in Open Cup play, with the first coming in the 2017 Third Round, a 1-0 FCC win.

In 11 matchups all-time against Louisville, the Orange and Blue hold a winning 5-4-2 record.

2023 marks the 108th edition of the U.S. Open Cup, the oldest national soccer competition in the United States, which first began in 1913. The Orange and Blue are 9-4-2 all-time in the event, which most notably FC Cincinnati advanced to the semifinals of in 2017, falling in extra time to the New York Red Bulls in front of a then sell-out crowd of 33,250 fans at Nippert Stadium. But not before the then-USL side advanced past five opponents including defeating Columbus Crew SC and knocking off Chicago Fire in penalty kicks.

Last season, in the first U.S. Open Cup held since 2019, FC Cincinnati hosted and defeated Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC after extra time in the Third Round before falling in the Round of 32 away to New England Revolution.

Season ticket members will have access to an exclusive presale window starting at 9 a.m. ET on April 7 with public on-sale beginning at 9 a.m. ET on April 10. Seating for the match will be limited to the Bailey and along the lower east side.

Parking passes for season ticket members will be available for purchase in the West End Garage through their SeatGeek account. Parking passes are limited to two per account with additional parking information here.
