CHESTER, Pa. – The Philadelphia Union faced Atlas F.C. in the first leg of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals on Tuesday night at Subaru Park, winning 1-0. In the first half, defender Damion Lowe made a crucial goal-line clearance in the 25th minute to preserve the 0-0 scoreline heading into halftime. Atlas F.C. then went down to 10 men in first half stoppage time when Anderson Santamaría saw a red card. The Union continued to apply the pressure throughout the match, outshooting Atlas F.C. 18 to eight. Midfielder Daniel Gazdag finally broke the deadlock, scoring the game winner in the 89th minute from the penalty spot after forward Julian Carranza was taken down in the box by Atlas F.C. goalkeeper Camilo Vargas. The Union will carry a one goal advantage into their second leg tie with Atlas F.C. The second leg Quarterfinal match will be played at Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico on Wednesday, April 12th (10:00 p.m. ET).


The Union return to MLS play on Saturday, April 8, where they will face FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET / Apple TV).
