Generation Adidas Cup: NYCFC U17s Reach Knockout Stages

Defender Alexander Callens Departs New York City Football Club

April 4, 2023 – Major League Soccer (MLS)New York City FC News Release

New York City’s Under-17s will compete in the knockout stages of the Generation Adidas Cup, after finishing top of their group.

The Boys in Blue earned an impressive eight points from their three Group 7 fixtures, defeating both Atlanta United and Pumas UNAM 1-0, before triumphing against Austin FC 5-4 on penalties for a bonus point, following a 2-2 draw in normal time.

José Jiménez’s side will face Orlando City SC in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, April 5 at 2pm ET. The sixteen teams have qualified for a bracket-style elimination format, with selected games available to watch live on Apple TV.

Meanwhile, City’s U15s finished third in Group 8. Michael Dal Pra’s side drew with Club Bolívar (1-1), San Jose Earthquakes (2-2) and Colorado Rapids (1-1), but were narrowly edged out in their first two penalty shoot-outs.

Though the City Boys picked up the bonus point with a 4-3 spot-kick victory against the Rapids on Matchday Three, it was unfortunately not enough to advance.
