Hartford Athletic are coming off a 1-1 draw to Orange County SC at home last Saturday. The Green and Blue conceded early after giving a free kick opportunity to the visitors in the seventh minute. Milan Iloski looped in his attempt from just a few yards outside of the box, beating Richard Sànchez to the near post. Hartford equalized late in the half with Elvis Amoh’s second goal of the year, coming in the fourth and final minute of first half stoppage time. The game’s physicality increased in the second half, as there were 10 yellow cards dished out in the second 45 minutes of play. There were nine minutes of stoppage time added, but neither team could find a game winning goal. Hartford took 17 shots, put three on target, and won the possession battle 64.2% to 35.8%.
HARTFORD’S U.S. OPEN CUP HISTORY:
Hartford Athletic played two matches in the Open Cup in 2022. They bested Oyster Bay United 3-1 in second round play, earning them a matchup with MLS side New York Red Bulls in the round of 32 at home after the draw. The Green and Blue fell to the Red Bulls 2-1, but felt a little bit of Cup magic after an electrifying goal from Conor McGlynn in the second half that brought the home side within one. Athletic’s Younes Boudadi also hit the post later in the half, leaving his team just inches away from forcing a penalty shootout with the heavily favored MLS club.
Before last year, Hartford’s last Open Cup match was in May of 2019. The Green and Blue hosted the New York Cosmos B at the University of Hartford in their Inaugural season and secured their first ever victory. Harry Swartz and Mads Jorgenson tallied Hartford’s goals in the 2-1 win. The club went on to lose to Memphis 901 FC in the round of 32.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Lansdowne Yonkers FC was formed in 1997 and the club is based out of Yonkers, New York. They currently compete in the Metropolitan Conference of the Eastern Premier Soccer League (EPSL).
