Fabio Paratici will ‘step back’ from his role as Tottenham managing director of football, the Premier League club confirmed on Friday.
It has been a chaotic couple of weeks at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – even if interim boss Cristian Stellini wants to tell you otherwise.
Head coach Antonio Conte was relieved of his duties last Sunday and a few days later it was confirmed that Paratici’s ban relating to Italian football was extended worldwide.
On Wednesday, Spurs released a statement that they are “urgently seeking further clarification from FIFA”.
The 50-year-old’s ban was dished out after his ex-club Juventus – where he was sporting director and latterly managing director – were found guilty of false accounting.
Paratici’s departure was first reported on Friday evening by the reliable David Ornstein.

Ornstein says that the Italian director met with the Spurs squad on Friday to explain his situation and that he will ‘step back’ from his role ‘pending the outcome of his appeal on April 19’.
The news was later confirmed by the club.
A statement read: “This week – 29 March 2023 – the FIFA disciplinary committee announced a decision to extend the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) sanctions, relating to Fabio Paratici, worldwide.
“This decision was taken in advance of Fabio Paratici’s appeal hearing against the FIGC sanctions on 19 April 2023, the result of which would then have been considered by additional stakeholders, including the club.
“Given FIFA’s unexpected ruling the sanctions may now have multi-jurisdictional effect, although they are still related to the FIGC appeal.
“In view of FIFA’s decision, Fabio has agreed with the club that he will take an immediate leave of absence pending the outcome of his appeal.”
This means that the search for Conte’s replacement will be spearheaded by a different person.
Furthermore, Spurs are now without a first-team head coach or acting director of football.
Cristian Stellini stepped up into the role of interim boss following the sacking of Conte and will be in charge until the end of 2022-23.
Stellini is tasked with keeping Spurs in the top four of the Premier League and his first match as interim head coach is against Everton on Monday.
