DWS Freshman Spotlight: Madison Foxhoven

DURHAM — Duke women’s soccer program will welcome another standout recruiting class to the mix in 2023 as head coach Robbie Church and his staff landed the No. 6 overall class. During the spring, GoDuke.com will be spotlighting each of the seven newcomers.

The fourth incoming freshman that will be spotlighted is Madison Foxhoven, who is a 5-4 forward from Calabasas, Calif. She attends Viewpoint School and plays for the LAFC So Cal ECNL.

Foxhoven tallied 66 goals over her high school career and is coming off totaling 39 goals and four assists as a senior.  She was tabbed Most Valuable Player and First Team All-League as a sophomore, junior and senior.  Foxhoven was also a First Team All-State selection as a junior and senior.    



GoDuke.com: What made you choose Duke?

Madison Foxhoven
I chose Duke because of its world-renowned academics and competitive athletic environment.

GD: Tell us about your soccer game and what you hope to bring to Duke?

MF:
I’m a player that likes to be creative in the offensive third with both my right and left foot. I hope to bring my own unique style of play to the team and to keep developing myself and my skills as a player.  

GD: Favorite NWSL Player?

MF:
Alex Morgan or Mallory Swanson

GD: Most excited for at Duke (soccer and not soccer)?  

MF:
I am so excited to begin training and playing with the team, to meet new people, and for the amazing food options.

GD: What is a fun fact/skill/talent people may not know about you?

MF:
I have played piano since I was eight years old.

GD: Who are your biggest inspirations on and off the pitch?

MF:
On the pitch, it would be players like Alex Morgan, Marta, and Megan Rapinoe. Off the pitch, my parents continue to be my biggest inspiration.

GD: What is your proudest moment on the soccer field so far?

MF:
Scoring five goals to help my team win against our rival team and securing the league championship.

GD: At what age did you start playing soccer?

MF:
I started playing soccer when I was four years old.

GD: Did you play other sports growing up?

MF:
I played volleyball, basketball, softball, track, and did gymnastics.
