Mbappe bigs up pair of Man Utd targets on opposite sides as France take on Ireland

Kylian Mbappe has bigged up a teammate and an opponent, both of whom have linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, ahead of France’s Euro 2024 qualifier with the Republic of Ireland on Monday.

Randal Kolo Muani’s fine form for Eintracht Frankfurt this season earned him a place at the World Cup with France, where he scored against Morocco in the semi-final and provided an assist Mbappe in the final.

His displays have also caught the eye of Erik ten Hag, who reportedly has the 24-year-old as one of his top targets this summer.

And last week, Kolo Muani made the headlines by dropping a huge hint he is open to a move away this summer.

He said: “We talk about it a lot already, but I try to be focused on my club.

“We continue our performances and we will see this summer. Afterwards, I always dreamed of playing in big clubs.”

Mbappe, who is now captaining France following Hugo Lloris’ retirement, believes United would be signing a “complete” forward if they manage to lure him to Old Trafford.

Mbappe said: “He is a striker who offers different game options to our team. He is very complete and has an impressive volume of play.

“We are happy with the game he played on Friday and I hope he scores tomorrow (Monday). We will try to get him to score a goal.”

But Mbappe also warned his teammates of the Republic of Ireland’s big threat, admitting Brighton striker Evan Ferguson – who’s also been linked with United – is “a good player”.

“He’s a good striker, an important striker for that team,” said Mbappe.

“We’ve seen some clips about him, of course. But we hope tomorrow he’s going to do nothing and that means we are going to win and we’re going to do our job. But he is a good player.”

Mbappe’s double against the 4-0 win over the Netherlands took him to 38 senior international goals, just three fewer than Michel Platini, the next target in his sights.

He said: “For me, it’s an honour to be at this stage. That’s my next target and I’ll keep going, It might be tomorrow, it might not.

“Obviously Michel Platini is a legend of French football, but I’ll get past that mark at some point.”
