March 26, 2023 – Major League Soccer (MLS)New York City FC News Release

Road Blues

The Boys in Blue headed into the clash with sights set on a first away win of 2023, eager to build on the momentum of two successive home victories and a three-game unbeaten run.

Head Coach Nick Cushing had called on his side to take their fine home form on the road, but the City Boys struggled to gain a foothold in the game, and carve clear-cut chances in Texas.

A late flurry put the home side under pressure, but Cushing and co. lamented a lack of composure in the key moments in the final third – a lesson the players will learn from, and be keen to correct come next week’s trip to New England Revolution.

While it can be seen as a compliment that teams feel the need to deploy so many men to defend against NYCFC’s attack, Cushing says his side must figure out how to overcome the block, asserting his players possess the quality to do so.

City came within inches of drawing level just two minutes later – only for Santiago Rodriguez’s looping effort to bounce agonizingly wide of the far post. A rare chance on the night, and an example of the frustratingly fine margins of the sometimes-not-so-beautiful…
