Tottenham told to sack Conte ‘now’ to pave the way for sensational Sherwood return

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood shouts instructions at his players

Teddy Sheringham thinks Tottenham should sack Antonio Conte now in order to bring back former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood.

Widespread reports claim that Conte is coming to the end of his tenure as Tottenham boss with rumours he will be sacked before the end of the international break.

Conte criticised his “selfish” players during his post-match press conference after they threw away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 against Southampton.

And there have been numerous top managers linked with the potential vacant position at Tottenham but Sheringham reckons ex-Spurs boss Sherwood deserves another chance.

Speaking about Conte’s remarks after the Southampton match, Sheringham told talkSPORT: “What a rant he came out with the other day. I still look at it and people ask me what do you think, but I still don’t know what he means with his rant.

“He looks upset and you can’t have that because you need some sort of stability to give you the confidence that you’re there for the long run and you want to make it right.

“If I was to answer the question I’d say to let him go and bring someone else in.

“I’d let him go now and get yesterday’s guest [Tim Sherwood] in. I would. I think you can do a lot worse than getting Tim Sherwood in.

“He’s a man who knows what he wants as a football manager. He’s had a couple of goes, he’s been sacked and he understands the game. If you listen to him talk, you know he knows how football…
