Tottenham: Journalist claims Spurs have ‘already contacted’ potential Conte successor

Tottenham to replace Conte

Antonio Conte has been told that he should “resign” following his angry outburst at his Tottenham Hotspur players over the weekend.

The Italian is out of contract in the summer, but Spurs hold the option to extend his deal for a further year.

The chances of this happening have become increasingly unlikely in recent weeks as Spurs have exited the FA Cup and Champions League in dismal fashion.

Tottenham’s top-four hopes were dealt a blow over the weekend as they surrendered a two-goal lead to draw against Southampton. This result means Newcastle and Liverpool will overtake fourth-placed Spurs if the two clubs win their games in hand.

Conte has not been shy to express his frustration at the club since he took over near the end of 2021. He launched an astonishing attack at his “selfish” players after their draw against Southampton.

It has since been reported that Conte will be sacked ‘this week’ so he will be out of a job before the Premier League returns after the international break.

“I know that Luis Enrique has already been contacted, there is a good possibility that he will go to England.”

It was suggested earlier this month that Enrique is at the ‘top’ of Tottenham’s managerial shortlist.

A separate report from Ben Jacobs notes that ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is ‘not a leading candidate’.

‘Pochettino is extremely open to a Spurs return and retains a strong professional and personal relationship with Levy. But Levy isn’t the only decision maker, even though his opinion carries huge weight. Fabio Paratici will lead on any appointment and he views Enrique as a strong candidate. Both options would be popular choices amongst the fanbase,’ Jacobs wrote for Caught Offside.
