Reports that Martin Odegaard will pen a new long-term Arsenal contract has really “excited” talkSPORT host Laura Woods.

Odegaard has been fantastic this season, scoring ten goals and providing seven assists in 27 Premier League appearances.

The Norwegian playmaker was named Arsenal captain in the summer and has taken on the responsibility to make the team his own and is leading an unexpected title push.

The Gunners are currently top of the Premier League, leading reigning champions Manchester City by eight points.

Mikel Arteta’s side are not in action until April due to the international break, but there are still plenty of rumours circulating, whether that be about contract extensions or potential transfers.

“I just think he might be the most integral player to that team,” McCoist added.

“I go on about the goalkeeper [Aaron Ramsdale], who has been great, and the two centre-backs [William Saliba & Gabriel Magalhaes].

“For the first time in a long time he’s got two centre-backs he can rely on. [Rob] Holding has come in and done very well.

“In the middle of the park you can argue [Thomas] Partey is as integral as any of them and Saka and the boys up front.

“But I just think [Bukayo] Saka is the one who keeps things ticking and moving along nicely.

“I really think he’s a terrific footballer.”

Odegaard is certainly an extremely crucial part of Arteta’s system and could be regarded as the heartbeat of the team.

Bukayo Saka has arguably been…
