Hodgson Set to be Appointed New Crystal Palace Manager

Crystal Palace are set to appoint 75-year-old Roy Hodgson as their new manager following the sacking of Patrick Vieira.

Hodgson previously led the Eagles from 2017 to 2021 before retiring from management, only to be coaxed back into the game by Watford in January 2022.

That spell only lasted five months, but Hodgson’s deep connection with Palace is set to draw him out of retirement again as the club scrambles to stay in the Premier League.

Palace have slipped into relegation contention following a run of 13 games without a win, sitting 12th but only three points above the drop zone.

It has been widely reported that Palace are close to finalising a deal for Hodgson, while respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claims it is a done deal.

Romano wrote: “Crystal Palace have agreed terms with Roy Hodgson he will return to the club as new head coach to replace Patrick Vieira. Hodgson will sign until the end of the season.”

Palace have endured a wretched run, netting only six goals during that 13-game winless streak.

Hodgson had a 33.3 per cent winning ratio during his previous time in charge at Palace, with 54 wins, 38 draws and 70 losses from 162 games.

The Eagles have been in the top flight since earning promotion from the Championship in the 2012-13 campaign.

During Hodgson’s time in charge, Palace finished around the 11th to 14th mark in the Premier League.
