Manchester United could reignite their interest in Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot this summer, according to reports.
The France international was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer, however, the Premier League club refused to meet his wage demands.
Rabiot is out of contract at the end of the season and is not expected to be short of suitors.
He has been perpetually linked with a move to the Premier League for quite a while now, with a recent report from Football Transfers adding Manchester City to the mix.
The 27-year-old’s wage demands are expected to be very high if he is available on a free transfer, which could deter United once again.
Any of the so-called big six in the Premier League could do with a player of Rabiot’s quality, though the player recently said Champions League football will be “crucial” in his decision-making process.
“I wanna play Champions League, it will be crucial point to make a decision on my future,” he said (as per Fabrizio Romano).
“New deal with Juventus? There are no recent talks but we’ve time to do that, there’s no news at this stage.”
City could lose Ilkay Gundogan at the end of the season with his contract also set to expire this summer.
Barcelona are (obviously) interested in signing the potential free agent, and should he leave the Etihad, you would expect Pep Guardiola to bring in a replacement.
Arsenal are expected to be in the Champions League next term and have been linked with Rabiot for quite a while.
Having said that, it seems unlikely that Mikel Arteta would sign the Frenchman.
Rabiot would likely crush the club’s wage structure, and Arteta has shown a reluctance to sign players above the age of 25 in recent summer windows.
The Gunners need to bulk up over the summer ahead of a return to Europe’s premier competition, but I cannot see this one happening.
A move to Tottenham would not be surprising whatsoever, though they could fall out of the top four given Liverpool’s recent form.
Chelsea may have spent an absolute fortune over the last year, but will probably bring in at least one midfielder this summer and will have the capability to offer an extortionate salary despite their (expected) lack of Champions League football.
However, like Arsenal, the Blues are looking to sign younger players with all eight January arrivals aged 23 or younger.
Liverpool need midfielders and quite a few of them. This could be a great move for the player and club.
