11 jaw-dropping stats from Liverpool's 6-0 thrashing of Man Utd

Liverpool continued their push for Champions League qualification with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield.

United travelled across Lancashire protecting an 11-game unbeaten record, but were blitzed by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in front of a jubilant Anfield.

The game was goalless until just before half-time when Cody Gakpo gave the Reds a deserved lead – but the real carnage came after the break.

Darwin Nunez, who has been much maligned this season, and Mohamed Salah scored doubles, while Gakpo added a second goal to complete a historic rout of their fierce rivals.

We’ve collected 11 jaw-dropping stats from Liverpool’s day of joy. We advise Reds supporters to grab a glass of wine, nestle on the sofa and savour the moment…

– Gakpo endeared himself to the Anfield crowd with two goals. He has been directly involved in 25 goals in 22 league games in 2022/23 (13 goals, 12 assists).

– The Netherlands international became only the fifth Liverpool player to score goals in home games against both Everton and Manchester United in one Premier League season and the first to do so since Daniel Sturridge in 2013-14.

– Mohamed Salah has now broken Robbie Fowler’s record of 128 Premier League goals for Liverpool with his brace.

– While Andy Robertson has now provided more Premier League assists (55) than Eden Hazard, Mesut Ozil and Juan Mata (all 54).

– Robertson has also assisted more goals than any other defender for a Premier League side this season (9), while only Kevin De Bruyne (17) has more overall in all competitions. Not bad for a left-back.

– Salah has now scored more Premier League goals against Manchester United (9) than Thierry Henry (8) and Sergio Aguero (8). Alan Shearer is the only player in the competition’s history with more.

– The Egypt international became the first player in Europe’s top five divisions to score 20+ goals and provide 10+ assists across all competitions in 2022-23.

– Liverpool remain unbeaten against Manchester United at Anfield in their last eight matches, a run that stretches back to January 2016.

– And have not lost a Premier League game when leading at half-time since 4th December 2016, a 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth.

– This was Liverpool’s biggest-ever victory over Manchester United. Crikey.
