Romelu Lukaku ‘still not in Chelsea plans next season’ despite goalscoring woes

Romelu Lukaku has expressed a desire to turn his loan move from Chelsea to Inter permanent

Romelu Lukaku ‘is STILL not in Chelsea’s plans next season’ despite their goalscoring woes under Graham Potter… with Blues boss ‘not enthusiastic’ about reintegrating the £97.5m striker after Inter Milan loan

  • Chelsea continue to have no plans to utilise striker Romelu Lukaku up front
  • On loan at Inter, boss Graham Potter is ‘not enthusiastic’ about his return
  • The Blues have struggled to score goals, but Lukaku is not set to fix problems

Chelsea‘s owners do not see Romelu Lukaku as part of their ongoing project, despite the club’s lack of success in front of goal.

The Belgian striker is currently on loan at Inter Milan until the end of the season, and there has been much speculation about his future – as the move came just 11 months after Chelsea purchased the 29-year-old.

Inter chief Beppe Marotta claimed that Lukaku wants to turn his loan spell with the club into a permanent move, but that the striker will return to Chelsea, as the deal struck last summer has no option to buy him.

Lukaku has struggled with injuries during his latest spell in Italy, limited to just 15 appearances and four goals for the blue and black half of Milan.

But his return to Stamford Bridge may not be warmly welcomed by the current manager, with a new Italian media report suggesting that Graham Potter is not looking to have Lukaku back in the Chelsea fold.

Gazzetta dello Sport wrote an update on the ongoing Lukaku saga, where it is claimed that Potter ‘is not enthusiastic’ about Lukaku’s potential return.

The pair did not cross paths at Chelsea, with the former Brighton boss jettisoned into the top job at Chelsea in September, after the Belgian’s loan move to Inter was confirmed in June.

Lukaku also does not fit into Todd Boehly’s ongoing plans for Chelsea, being at odds with their focus on bright young players.

However, Chelsea’s problems in front of goal saw the men’s team score just once in their February fixtures – in a draw at West Ham – and continuing a barren spell in front of goal.
