The Chelsea owners remain in full support of manager Graham Potter and contrary to reports will not make a decision on his future based on their next two games against Leeds and Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea are tenth in the Premier League despite spending nearly £600m on new players since the end of last season and a report on Monday claimed Potter is on thin ice.
It was claimed he could be sacked if he fails to turn things around in their next two fixtures, but The Guardian has rubbished that claim.
The Blues take on Leeds at Stamford Bridge on Saturday before Borussia Dortmund arrive in west London on Tuesday with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg of their Champions League tie.
But Potter’s future will not depend on results in those games, with Chelsea’s owners, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, still wanting to give the former Brighton boss time to turn things around.
The report states that they are aware of the difficulty in adding so many new players to the squad and ‘their ambition from early in this poor sequence of results has been to give Potter next summer to benefit from a pre-season, a recalibration of the squad and the addition of the forward Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig’.
It’s also said that they ‘like the calm way Potter is going about his business’ and don’t want to rip up their blueprint having built a structure around him.
The Chelsea fans have shown themselves to be less patient (and abhorrent) with Potter revealing on Friday that he had received emails wishing him and his children dead.
Potter said after Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham that he can “feel the desire” of his players but admits they are suffering.
“It was a tight game. It was even first half. We were probably the better team for the first 20 minutes and then they came into it,” he said.
“Overall we were happy enough with our performance and then the start of the second half has made it really difficult for us. Once you are one nil down they can defend a little bit deeper and with more numbers and play on the counter.
“We huffed and puffed without doing enough to score but overall it is a disappointing loss for us.
“You can feel the desire of the players to turn results around but sometimes you go through moments where you have to suffer.”
