Arsenal newcomer full of praise for Man Utd summer target

Man Utd-linked Osimhen

Arsenal newcomer Jorginho has revealed that he persuaded Napoli to sign Victor Osimhen amid reports linking the striker with a move to Man Utd.

Osimhen has been one of the best strikers in Europe this season as he has been in stunning form for Italian giants Napoli.

The Nigeria international has grabbed 18 goals and three assists in 19 league games as Napoli have moved 15 points clear at the top of the Serie A table.

The forward is currently five goals clear of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez as the league’s top goalscorer. Despite this, Osimhen has insisted that he is more focused on team accolades.

“Being the highest goalscorer is actually not my main priority,” Osimhen told ESPN. “The team comes first before my personal ambition.

“If I win it, that’s fine but what I want to do is try to win trophies with my team. As long as the team is winning, it doesn’t matter to me who gets the goals or whether I win top scorer or not.”

Osimhen’s form for Napoli has fuelled talk that he could leave in the summer. Man Utd are being linked with him as it is known that they want to sign a new striker. Recent reports have suggested that he could cost as much as £133m.

He has insisted that it is “for the club” to decide his future but he has insisted that he is “focused on Napoli right now”.

“When you are doing so well, top clubs around the world are watching, mostly in the top five leagues,” Osimhen added.

“And to be able to attract interest from these top clubs shows that I am doing great and it gives me the motivation to do even more for myself and my team.

“But I am focused on Napoli right now and they have the final say. I just want to help my team to win matches and win trophies.

“At the end of the season, we will see what is going to happen, but that is not up to me. It is for the club to decide.”

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho previously played for Napoli before he signed moved to England to join Chelsea.

He has revealed that he told Napoli’s director to sign Osimhen “straight away” before he joined the Serie A outfit from Lille in 2020.

“I knew Osimhen. I had played against him in the Champions League and he had given a hard time to our defenders,” Jorginho said.

“[Cristiano] Giuntoli [Napoli’s director] called me before signing him and I told him to sign him straight away, he is very promising and is doing really well.

“They [Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia] are flying and everything is going well. There…
