Tropics Acquire Joey Tavernese in Advance of Key Sunday Showdown against KC Comets

Forward Bruno Henrique Cleared to Re-Join Florida Tropics for 2022-23 Season

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Tropics continue to be active in the Major Arena Soccer League trading market, acquiring forward Joey Tavernese from Utica for future considerations, the teams announced today. Per league and team policy, no additional detail of the move will be released.


It is the second time Tavernese will be suited up with Florida. Over parts of two seasons between 2019 and 2021, He appeared in 25 games and scored 16 goals to go along with 11 assists. His second season in 2021 was cut short with an eye injury.

So far this year in Utica, he has 10 goals in 13 games after scoring 19 goals for them last year. For his career, he continues to be a top level performer, appearing in 173 regular season and playoff games with 172 goals and 107 assists for 279 total points.

“He’s always been very talented, very smart, very team oriented. He plays with an intensity and passion that our fans immediately came to love,” Coach Clay Roberts said. “He really is a perfect fit for the type of player we have been looking to bring in and be part of our organization, a pro and a winner on and off the field, so it’s great that we have him back.”

Tavernese was a second team All MASL pick in 2017-18 with Syracuse. The 33 year-old Queens, N.Y. native had his best year two season in 2017-18, with 28 goals and 26 assists in 22 games for the Silver Knights. His first three years in pro indoor soccer were with Rochester, and included his breakout year of 2014-15 when he had 26 goals and added 15 assists for the Lancers, who now play in MASL2.

After finishing a five-game road trip, Florida will be back at home for a pair of Sunday matinees, starting this weekend when the Kansas City Comets come to town. On Feb. 26, the Tacome Stars will visit the RP Funding Center. The Comets and Tropics are tied for second place in the MASL”s Eastern division.

Tickets for all home games are available starting at just $7 per game by calling the arena box office at 863-834-8111. Although tickets are also available online at www.rpfundingcenter.com, service fees are significantly higher through Ticketmaster as opposed to calling the box office directly. Tickets are also available on game day at the box office.
