Arsenal, Man Utd boost as Carlo Ancelotti admits he ‘doesn’t care’ if target stays at Real Madrid

Arsenal target Asensio

Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he “doesn’t care” if Marco Asensio stays at Real Madrid amid reports linking him with Arsenal and Manchester United.

Asensio’s future at Real Madrid is in doubt as his current contract is due to expire at the end of this season. He has fallen down the pecking order this term.

The winger has played 28 times across all competitions this term but he has only started six games in La Liga. He has still managed to grab five goals and five assists this campaign.

Asensio has made an impact in recent games. He started and got on the scoresheet earlier this week as Real Madrid hammered Elche 4-0 in La Liga.

Despite this, Madrid boss Ancelotti has admitted that he “does not care much” if Asensio remains at the club beyond the end of this season.

“He looks good to me,” Ancelotti said. “So I don’t know if he stays or not. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t. I don’t care much.

“We have some important challenges this season. The most important thing is that he contributes like last year.

“Let him continue as he is doing now. Then the club makes the most appropriate decision in the end.”

Premier League clubs will likely be queueing up to sign Asensio this summer. Arsenal were in the market for a winger in January before they recruited Leandro Trossard and they have been linked with the Real Madrid man.

Asensio is also understood to be one of the players Manchester United are looking at as they look to improve further under Erik ten Hag.

Speaking last year, Asensio was keen to keep his options open when he was asked about his future at the Spanish giants.

“I am focused on the national team. When this concentration is over, we will talk. We will see what I will do with my future. Renew or leave Real Madrid? I think there are three possibilities, there is also the option to stay and fulfil my contract year,” Asensio said.

“My future does not have to depend on whether or not I will have a place in the next World Cup.

“Rumours are part of football, and more so at Real Madrid. High-level players are always associated with it. Many players come out every summer and it’s something we have to live with.”

Man Utd are also said to be interested in Real Madrid star Federico Valverde. It was reported earlier this month that they have made a £58m bid in an attempt to snatch him away from the La Liga side.
