Pack Falls on Day One Of Candrea Classic

TUCSONNC State softball dropped both of its games on day one of the Candrea Classic hosted by Arizona. 

Seven freshmen made an appearance on day one of the 2023 season, including pitchers Rylee Wyman, Madison Inscoe, and Wynne Gore.

NC State 6, Kansas 12

The Jayhawks (1-1)  took a 4-0 lead to open the game, with the fifth batter hitting a home run to right center field. 

The Pack tried to battle back, but the Jayhawks defense was hard to get through. 

Freshman MaKayla Marbury recorded the Packs first hit of the morning when she singled to left center field in the bottom of the second. 

Kansas led 11-0 in the bottom of the fifth, but the Pack found a weak spot in the outfield. Sophomore Taylor Ensley singled to left that scored two in the bottom of fifth to plate the Pack’s first two runs of the day.

Junior Kaylee Lambrecht reached on an error in the outfield, which allowed two more runs to score and cut into the Jayhawks lead.

In her third at bat of the morning, senior Rebecca Murray doubled to left center, bringing Lambrecht across home plate. The Pack ended the inning with six runs. 

The last time NC State scored six runs in an inning was against Louisville (4/3/22).

Redshirt-junior Aisha Weixlmann recorded five strikeouts in the final four innings for the Pack.

NC State 2, Long Beach State 4

The Beach (2-1) took a 4-0 lead, scoring in the third through fifth innings.
