Man Utd midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been warned that he is risking the wrath of Erik ten Hag due to his ongoing “erratic” and “selfish” behaviour.
The 28-year-old hit the ground running after he joined Man Utd from Sporting Lisbon for an initial fee of around £47m.
He has gone on to score 57 goals in 159 appearances for United across all competitions over the past couple of seasons.
Fernandes was among the players who underperformed last term. United struggled as a team as they finished sixth in the Premier League.
His form has picked up this season since Erik ten Hag took over in the summer. He has grabbed seven goals and seven assists in 33 outings across all competitions.
The Portugal international has captained United regularly this season with Harry Maguire down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Fernandes is often willing to express his anger towards officials and he is also regularly seen shrugging his shoulders and throwing his hands up to get his teammates on their game. This has unsurprisingly infuriated Graeme Souness and Roy Keane.
Now ex-United player Paul Parker has hit out at Fernandes, who “doesn’t act like a leader” as he is a “really selfish person”.
“I felt sorry for Marcel Sabitzer that he had to play together with Bruno Fernandes, who is a maniac that goes 200 mph like a headless chicken,” Parker told Apostagolos.
“Bruno Fernandes has the armband but he doesn’t act like a leader. He should lead by example and not get mad when things aren’t going his way.
“He is a really selfish person and on the pitch he is erratic. He is very, very erratic. He has to start doing what a captain should do but honestly, I don’t expect him to improve. Not personality-wise and not football-wise.
“Now I start to understand why Man Utd is his first big club in Europe. Obviously, no other club has ever wanted him at their club.
“The fans might not notice it as much but a football person does and sooner or later, Erik ten Hag will notice as well.”
Fernandes will no doubt get a lot of abuse from Leeds United fans this weekend when Man Utd play at Elland Road on Sunday. He has insisted that he is “not worried” about the reception he will receive from the home supporters.
